| Warrior Work Week 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Principle 3: Become acquainted with every art. In week 2 we looked at the importance of training and how through training we become what we repeatedly do. What are you becoming? What are you creating within you? Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, says that progress comes to those who train and train, relying on secret techniques will get you nowhere." In becoming acquainted with all arts, one begins to see the underlying patterns of hard and soft, direct and indirect. Learning to look beyond the form to the underlying energies helps to clear the mind and sharpen the senses. Even more important is to see the intent of the person teaching the art and the intent or goals of the art itself. All good arts are designed to help you build your knowledge power and inner harmony if you are moving from a loving intent. Every art can also in turn break you down and beat you up if your intent is not clear. In movement there are only inward circles, outward circles and straight lines and yet the interweaving and combinations of those are endless. Our mind directs our energy through those movements to create the myriad of arts based on intent and the worlds they evolved in. This week expose yourself to some new arts through books, videos, literature, music or stop in and take some introductory classes in minimum 2-3 different yoga schools, 2-3 different martial arts schools or in 2-3 different dance studios. Spread it out throughout the month. Make it a point to ask what the goals of the art and/or the school is. Meet with the teachers and see/listen to how you "feel" about them. Don't make any commitments in any school for more than 6 months and then reevaluate your goals and your path. Be sure to ask about extra fees for equipment, seminars etc., that may not be upfront in the initial sign ups. Share your experiences and questions online through chat groups or with other students. Use the g.e.t.i.t. paradigm to look at the big and little picture as you move through it and use it all to nurture and empower yourself and in turn be more capable of serving those you love.
